Description:

Titanic Belfast opened on 12th April 2012, and had welcomed 3 million visitors by 14th August 2016. During its first 3 years of operation, it generated £105 million in additional tourism spend to Northern Ireland, and it has had a major impact on tourism flows in Belfast. In November 2016, it was voted the World’s Leading Visitor Attraction at the World Travel Awards. Michael Counahan assembled and led the multi-disciplinary team that developed the project concept in the course of conducting an initial feasibility study of a Titanic Signature Project. Following the completion of this study, he went on to coordinate the project through all stages of planning and development through to its opening in 2012. This work included management of ten professional firms that were directly subcontracted by CHL; the preparation of funding applications; and all pre-opening planning and marketing. Michael continues to be a member of the Titanic Belfast Management Steering Committee which oversees and guides the operation and continuing development of the attraction.
